ABOUT US
Elizabeth DiStasio-Waddell founded the Greater Buffalo Youth Ballet (GBYB) in 1997, and serves as its artistic director. The GBYB gives young dancers, ranging in ages from 6 to 18, the opportunity to train with professional dancers, as well as participate in the cultural enrichment of their community. They have the opportunity to perform in classical and originally-choreographed productions. Many of our dancers are awarded scholarships by prestigious national companies to participate in professional summer ballet programs.
In addition to their annual repertoire, the GBYB dancers perform at:
- Area schools
- Senior citizen centers
- Community centers
- Hospitals
- Local festivals
- Performing Arts Centers
- Special needs program sites
REPERTOIRE
Greater Buffalo Youth Ballet dancers have the opportunity to perform classical as well as neoclassical ballets. Some pieces are performed using the ballet’s original choreography. This is a great historical opportunity for the dancers – performing roles as they were originally danced decades ago. The Greater Buffalo Youth Ballet also performs pieces choreographed by its Artistic Director, Elizabeth DiStasio-Waddell.
